**It is test day in my 8AM class so I will be a little late for this class. Please get started on your blog reply right away. We will start our discussion at 9:30.**
Government spying has been a huge hot topic issue over the past twelve months. Now major tech giants are banning together to limit this "privacy intrusion". Here is the latest news on their efforts.

What are your thoughts on government spying? Is it something that effects your day to day life? Do you think they are overstepping or simply just doing their jobs? Share your thoughts!
In my opinion, I don't think the government should be able to spy unless they have a valid reason to. People have a right to their privacy and the government should give them that. Honestly, I don't think the government spying has had much effect on my life. It's not something I worry about when I use my computer or other technology. I don't have anything to hide from them, so what would they want from me? I feel the government is overstepping their boundaries when it comes to spying, but like I said before if they have a valid reason then I guess I would say let them do it.
ReplyDeleteMy thoughts on government spying is that I think it has gone a little too far. I don't think, as Americans, we need to be constantly looked after to make sure our phone calls, e-mails, and even internet browsing is not a hazard to the people around us. Now this isn't something that affects me everyday but there are many other people that are and I think all they wanted is privacy. I know the government wants what's best for our country, but I think they are going a little to far in secretly checking people's emails, who they're calling and so on. If there was a person who is high risk and could do harm to our country, then maybe the government has more of a right to check into their personal lives to stop whatever they have planned.
ReplyDeleteI left my keys on and my battery is dead. I live in the country and can't get a jump for a while, so I am at home. Moving on to the assignment...
ReplyDeleteGovernment spying is a topic that makes me argue with myself. On one hand, I don't want to go through everyone's emails and junk to make sure people aren't trying to blow me up. On the other hand, I don't want anyone going through my emails and junk in general; they are my private documents. I think that the government is overstepping their boundaries by going through all of the data that they did. I'm open minded to the idea that if I knew what they knew, I'd want to do the same thing. Up until I have something to hide from the government, I won't care about this as much. 'Mericuh.
Government spying has definitely went a little bit over board. I think checking everyone's emails, phone calls, and internet browsing is simply overkill. They are doing things that are very unnecessary. I am extremely happy with companies such as Microsoft and Yahoo for stepping up, and doing something for the sake of our privacy.
ReplyDeleteI can't really say that this has effected me; personally I have nothing to hide from the government, so no worries here. And i think that most people feel like that, however; I can see how people get a bad feeling about this. It just isn't right to invade people's privacy like that.
Growing up around government "spying" activities it has always been used to me. Knowing some of the dishonest acts they've used their communication interception equipment for, such as stealing designs from Airbus and trading them over to Boeing and other similar instances.
ReplyDeleteIn a sense it does effects all of our everyday lives, but in a larger realistic sense it doesn't. Unless you are actually doing something wrong, and even in that case you'd be lucky if they came nocking at your door, there is nothing to worry about. You think the government has resources to hire individuals to personally read all of our communications? No. Simple as that.
I grew up around the Yakima Listening Station that was ran by the NSA and employed many units of other military branches. My best friends mother was the chief of staff, they are just human being like all of us doing their job and going above and beyond to keep us safe.
To me personally Government spying doesn't really affect me much. I mean when the government was exposed of internet tapping I wasn’t surprised or shocked. I was more surprised they didn’t have a super computer doing all the snooping and processing. Which I’m sure they do just for more classified reasons. It doesn’t effect my daily life, for I have nothing to hide or am I planning on making a bomb anytime soon. I’ve been thi9nking about this and I feel the government always over step everything. I don’t think they need the ability to effect casual lives and just basically snoop around on anyone they want. I mean they should need a warrant and let that person know that they are going to hack into their cyber life. I mean I guess I understand that if a terrorist is using heavy technological activity and they track him down that way then so be it, but any other casualty should need permeation.
ReplyDeleteI agree with my fellow classmates that the government has gone too far when it comes to our privacy. I do not think that the government has a strong right to look through people's e-mails or listen in on their phone calls. Privacy is one thing that we should get to keep to ourselves, without the government snooping around. Now if someone is under their radar as suspicious for criminal activity. I think that it ok to look and listen to see whether or not that person is involved. But our government should put a little more trust into the American people. We don't go digging into other people's business so the government shouldn't either.
ReplyDeleteI think its wrong but in some cases done to keep us safe. I don't need random people reading my emails and see what I'm searching, although it is important to know that they can access this information on people who are dangerous to the public. I don't think the government is overstepping. Just as long as they keep leaving people alone who are not threats to anyone.
ReplyDeleteI think that the government is taking this way too far. They should not have the right to go through people's e-mails. The fact that now you can't even talk on the phone in privacy is just ridiculous. I do realize that it's to keep us safe but there is a point where you have to draw the line. I don't remember answering a survey asking if this was ok or not. The part that I am concerned with, is that they just think it's automatically acceptable for this to happen. They should have to ask the people before they make something happen like this.
