Outside of the "technology" box...

When the word "technology" comes up we tend to instantly think of computers, hackers, or anything that starts with "i" however technology encompasses a much wider array of topics.  Today we are going to look at how technology effects transportation.

Yesterday was a big day in the transportation industry!!! Read the following article and share your thoughts!

The following article discusses one of the newest trends in air travel.  Do you think it will become a reality?  Share your thoughts!

  1. The new transcontinental train in Istanbul is a neat, fast way to get people from one place to another. The cool thing I thought they were able to do when constructing this is they found artifacts that dated Istanbul's history back 8,500 years ago. Even though it held up construction, people were able to find out the intensity of the biggest earthquake that hit that area and build the rail system to stand earthquakes at high intensity. I believe this won't be the last time we see a transportation system like this.

I think the new trend in air travel using "spaceliner" could become reality but I think the chances are low. With the money that has been put into it and all the technology needed to make sure to stands the heat and can easily take off and land is a lot of work. I don't know if many people will want to risk their lives or spend that kind of money for a ticket. I think it's a cool invention but it will take some time for people to get use to the fact that this could be a normal way of travel in upcoming years.

The most worthwhile invention was the first human-flying aircraft invented by the Wright Brothers. It took baby steps to get where aircrafts have gotten today but they have become a popular way of traveling and have made it more convenient especially those traveling all the time for work.

  2. I believe that the Space Liner is just an unnecessary luxury. Yes, it would make traveling quicker and possibly a little less painful. However, not many people can afford to pay several hundred thousand dollars to take a flight. It is unbelievable how fast they project this vehicle to fly, and very interesting. Mach 24 sounds extremely dangerous. if anything was to happen during a flight, there is no chance of survival at the speed they're traveling.
The most worth while invention, in my mind, was the plane. Planes are a great way to transport from place to place.

  3. In my opinion, I think that the Marmaray is a great idea. If that many people were there on the first day, it seems sensible that people would be immature and set off the emergency alarms. If it is fully functional, I think that the railway will be a great tool for years to come. On the other hand, the SpaceLiner is a terrible idea. How much good is that seriously going to do for the world? It's too much risk for an idea that is not even close to being complete. When I took the quiz, I think that the most worthwhile invention was the airplane simply because it is such a big part of our world still to this day. The Wright brothers surely started something that will be useful for many years.

  4. I think that this form of transportation between Europe and Asia is incredible! Although there were a few mishaps with the opening of the train tunnel, to have finally finished a project/or invention that has been taken place since 2004 is a huge feat. It is crazy to think that this underwater train tunnel will provide transportation between the two continents for 1.5 million people a day in just a matter of four minutes. It was also crazy to read how during the construction of this tunnel, workers found artifacts that traced Istanbul's history back 8,500 years which is another 2,500 more years than they actually thought. The tunnel was also built on one of the major fault lines, so the construction of the tunnel was created to withstand an earthquake of 9.0 scale, which is a great invention in itself.
Reading the second article, I have a hard time believing that this form of air travel will be a reality anytime soon. The concept is phenomenal and honesty very futuristic like, but there are many issues that I think arise with it. Although it would be great to reach your destination across the world in a matter of minutes, I think that it would be ridiculous to pay the large amount of money they want to do so. Even though there are a lot of things that need to be worked on to make this invention a reality, I think that creating this type of transportation will boost our technology advancements into the future.
I think that the most worthwhile invention was the vehicle and airplane. Those two inventions are part of our daily life so they have influenced us tremendously. I think that we will continue to use these inventions until we design something more advanced.

  5. I think the idea of traveling through a tunnel is great! It is quite the engineering spectacle to build a tunnel not only underground but with such a large mass of water on the surface. What I like most about traveling in tunnels is thinking about the large amounts of surface land that is saved!

Traveling around the world by rocket is a pretty digestible idea. Through the ages we have proved that rocket travel is primarily safe and effective. However, I do not think many people will be willing to spend such hefty amounts of money just for a fast travel. When I think about it, even a billionaire would regard hundreds of thousands of dollars as significant.

I believe of the many inventions in the quiz, the airplane is the most significant. Our society has evolved greatly around the wide use of this technology. The shipping of goods, people, and also the military depend on such quick travel.

  6. To be honest I’m surprised something like this hasn’t been built in all parts of the world. I do think it’s a good idea, millions of people a day will use this train to get where they need to be. As for how advanced and how fast this train is would have been interesting to know. Since Japan was involved in the making I’m sure its speed and technology will be up to date.

The thought of this becoming a reality is no doubt in my mind. I think this is just the dawning of casual space flight. The fact that this already isn’t already an up and running project seems stranger to me than the idea itself. I think air travel still has a lot of advancing and will be going very far in the future.

I wouldn't say one was more worthwhile than the other. All of these inventions are why we are here today. All of this flight history makes up what our flight is like today. Same with the auto mobile and and locomotive these are revolutionary inventions that improved ground travel and transportation.

  7. It was very interesting to read about the Marmaray Tunnel in Turkey. Just that the actual tunnel is finally being completed after taking almost 10 years to build. I really liked at the end of the article when reading about how while some of the Turkish people celebrated the tunnel, at the same time there were riots breaking out and riot police clashed with demonstrators protesting the Turkish government.

After reading the article on the "hypersonic paceliner" its kind of hard to think about it realistically considering it wont be done until 2050, if that is they even get a design finalized and allow the shuttle to no burn up while traveling at about 15,000 mph. No I really do not think it will be a reality.

I would have to say that the most worthwhile invention would defiantly be the Wright brothers inventing the first haevier than air flying plane. I feel that way because I think it took the most bravery to invent. All the times that they failed and the device would come crashing back down to the ground, to me is unbelievable. Imagine our world if flying was just an idea still. People would never be able to go to other countries and continents.
