Online Shop-a-holic

There is an increasing trend of online shoppers who prefer to purchase items from the comfort of their living room rather than battle the traffic and crowds at their local outlets.  Amazon is one of the leaders in this category, almost like an online Wal-Mart WITH MORE STUFF! However, there are still some things they don't sell (see article link below).  What are your thoughts on online shopping?  How often do you online shop? What are some of the negative effects this has on society?  What about the positive ones?  Which one of the 10 things listed in the article below would you be the most excited to see added to the Amazon inventory?

  1. Online shopping helps many people get what they want and need. It is especially helpful for people who don't have the luxury of living near any major stores or cannot get to them due to handicap or illness. I usually only online shop a few times a year for shoes or a hat. I like to see and feel what I'm buying before I actually buy it. Online shopping can be very prone to fraud, which is a negative impact on society. However, it also makes life easier for so many people. Out of the top 10 list, I would be most interested in seeing guns on amazon. Nothing would make me feel safer than knowing everybody has a loaded pistol on them at all times.

  2. I think online shopping is very convenient for everyone. Whether you are to busy during the day, or don't like going out into crowded places or traffic, online shopping can be done in the comfort of your own home. Being I have lived around the Williston area for most of my life, I tend to online shop quite a bit. North Dakota definitely does not have as much as other states have to offer. Some negative affects online shopping has on society is that social interaction with other people is decreasing. A positive aspect of online shopping as I said before is that you can shop from your own home, and it is as easy as the click of a button. Out of the ten things Amazon did not have, I would be most excited to see lottery tickets online. Since the selling of lottery tickets has increased, I think selling lottery tickets on Amazon would only further the selling. All in all, I think online shopping is a very useful thing.

  3. I think that online shopping is a wonderful thing to have. I personally shop online at least once or twice a month. Since I've arrived here in Williston, I've realized that I'm starting to shop online more often than usual. Like everything in life, there are pros and cons to online shopping. Cons include the possibilities that you receive a package containing something other than what you ordered, or not even receiving a package at all. It also seems rare when you receive a package on or before the estimated date, so that is another downside to this shopping method. There are many pros, however. The internet is right at the tip of your fingers, making everything very convenient. You can buy almost anything which eliminates the need to drive around town to get everything that you want. You can make a purchase at any time of the day, unlike how most stores close around 8 or 9. Of the 10 things listed, I would be most excited to see lottery tickets added to the Amazon inventory. I think that we would see insane numbers for the powerball. Overall, I think that online shopping's goods outweigh its bads.

  4. I think online shopping is a positive thing granted that the consumer is responsible with it. While I very rarely shop online, it is a very useful way to purchase things that I would have to travel to purchase elsewhere. Some negative aspects this has on our society is it’s easier to overspend because you’re not physically there purchasing the items and your mindset usually isn’t in the budgeting frame. Online shopping can also help fuel public anxiety for some individuals, getting rid of the ‘face-to-face’ experience, especially since you can almost do everything online these days. However, for every negative there can be a positive. Online shopping is more convenient and can help save money if you do your research. It’s also great for entrepreneurs who want to sell their products on an online platform such as Etsy, cutting the cost of actually owning a shop and cutting a lot of the risk.

Out of the ten things that Amazon doesn’t sell yet the thing that would be most beneficial to me would be the prescription eyeglasses, mostly because it would cut a lot of cost.

  5. I think online shopping is a great thing! with today's fast paced life, who has time to go out shopping? However, I'm one of those people who like to feel something before buying it, but I can live without it most of the time. Especially living in Williston, the minority of the shopping I do is online.

Online shopping can also have a negative side to it. One, is shipping; you never know what could happen during transit or even if it makes it to the right address? When buying something online your basically going of their word on the product, because your not there to see it and you could be cheated out money. And also shopping online limits social interaction and a chance to get out in public.

Honestly, of the list of things Amazon doesn't sell, there are very good reasons why they don't sell them. Many of the things they don't sell would be impractical to sell because you simply have to see them in person such as real estate, pets, and cars. As far as liquor and tobacco, how hard it it to go to a liquor store or a gas station?

  6. In my mind online shopping is a great thing. I am one of those people who would rather not deal with the crowds of people, and just order some stuff from my nice cozy chair back home. I don't shop often, but when I do, it is usually online. Coming to Williston definitely makes me shop online a little bit more than I typically would. I believe this happens because of boredom that comes along with going to school here.
The effects online shopping can have on society as a whole may not be a very good thing. In today's generation, we already have a hard enough time with personal conversations because everything is over text messages now. So, now that I don't even have to go talk to the cashier at Cabela's, it just makes my social skills that much worse. Positively, i don't have to get off my butt to get the things that I want.
I know it would be a huge pain to put on there, and it will probably never happen; but I'd love to see guns on Amazon. But, that is just because I would love to see guns for sale on any site.

  7. Online shopping is a new revolution to shopping because of internet. I think it’s very convenient especially in a place like Williston where we don’t have many options to shop. I personally don’t like it. Why? because every time I shop online I either don’t reactive my things or I don’t get what I ordered, I’ve seen other people order online and receive everything on the same day. But not for me. As for the negative effects like I said not getting what you ordered or receive the wrong thing. Another con is that there’s always fake people selling fake things to get your money, and one they have your money they can go further and clear out your whole bank account. Some pros you can order whatever you want from wherever you want and receive it in a matter of three to four days. Plus you can get what’s not available to you at a store. Plus you can do it from the comfort of your home don’t have to go anywhere. It’s just really convenient. As for the 10 things I chose alcohol because I’m not old enough to get my wine, and buying a puppy off the internet is weird.

  8. I think online shopping is a great thing to have. A lot of time, stores don't always have that one thing you need so having access to it on the internet and being able to buy it helps. I don't do a lot of online shopping myself. Usually if there is something I need my mom orders it for me and then I will pay her back. Now this was before I had my debit card and I have had it since June. Two weeks ago I made my first online purchase for basketball shoes and as of right now I don't feel the need to be spending my money. The negative effects of online shopping is people can easily lose a lot of their money and possibly use it all if they're not careful. A positive side of online shopping is if your local store doesn't have what you need you can purchase it online and sometimes there is free shipping. I would love to see cars because you can usually get good deals and find a car you like.

  9. My take on shopping online goes both ways. I am not one for really going online to purchase items because I would rather get it at the store itself, so I know whether it fits or works properly. However, now that I moved to Williston, I see myself gravitating towards it more because I am able to shop at locations that are not around here. I online shop more now than I have my whole life, because in Williston, there are not a lot of options, whereas online there are many places to buy from.
Online shopping does have its negatives however, you can purchase something and it doesn't work or fit properly or it even gets sent to the wrong address. Also I am really leery about giving my credit card number online in case someone decides to take it. Positives are that you can acquire and buy items that you might not find in your home town.
One of the ten things I would be interested in buying if Amazon had them is real estate. I don't know why, it was just the most intriguing item on that list for me.

  10. I think online shopping is a good thing. I shop online once or twice a year. It feels like my mom and sister shop online about once or twice a week! There is negative affects on our society from online shopping. The local economy in small towns all across the states are taking huge hits from online shopping. Now a days its kind of rare to see any store except for a restaurant. The small business's are almost disappearing. Another negative is how it gives us more excuses to be lazy and shop from our couch. There are a lot of positives from online shopping. The deals that are online are allowing people to save quite a bit of money. Another positive is that it allows for people who live far away from a mall or big city to buy what they want fast and easier. I think the most exciting thing that could be added to amazon is real-estate, allowing somebody to make the biggest purchase of their life right from their lap with out having to talk to anyone is pretty fun to think about.
